Eventually a state of allergy is established. This allergy is responsible for the infiltration of the tissue with lymphocytes, plasma cells and epitheloid cells and also obliterative endarteritis of the small vessels, resulting in the reduction of the blood supply and ultimate necrosis. Any part of the body may be affected by syphilis and the present paper deals with cutaneous gummata of face. Occurrence after infection of the condition is very variable and may be at any time of the patient's life, and is usually from 3 to 5 years after infection in India. Types are mainly of two different types, such as (1) nodular and (2) nodulo-ulcerative types. Spread.?In late syphilis the spread is generally centrifugal.
